Claudia Quadri’s latest work is a short autobiographical novel that consists of a series of everyday observations from her life. Across 28 chapters we are met with anecdotes, short stories, thoughts and memories. The author talks about her family’s hotel in Paradiso as it gradually falls to bits, and about the many animals, large and small, that accompanied them. In a sophisticated language that never falls into sentimentality and effectively and sensitively reproduces the flow of ideas in the narrative voice with elements from colloquial language and dialect as well as words in French and German (the languages of the hotel guests), Claudia Quadri speaks of simple things and at the same time describes the profound changes in her region over time.
