Pascal Janoviak
The Rome Zoo

Pascal Janovjak’s novel tells two stories that gradually intermingle. The first is collective: as the title indicates, it is the story of the Rome Zoo, extending over a whole century. This part of the narrative looks at the many different ways in which animals are kept and reared. The second is private: it is the story of a brief, intense and melancholy encounter between two people in love. Novelistic verve meets documentary precision. And the meeting is successful, thanks to the author’s elegant and inventive language and the low-key humour that enlivens every page.
